Grass Fed Beef
STEAK IN THE GRASS
Alton Brown talks about the flavor and texture profile of grass-fed beef. This video is part of Alton Brown Web Videos 2010 show hosted by Alton Brown.
keeps ANIMALS on the LAND
Most cattle are finished on industrial feedlots called CAFOs, where they are fed a mix of antibiotics, hormones, protein supplements and corn. Farmers like Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms in Swoope, Virginia raise their cattle on grass, using rotational grazing and other fundamental principles of pasture management. Learn more about the difference between grassfed and cornfed beef.
GMO OMG director and concerned father Jeremy Seifert is in search of answers. How do GMOs affect our children, the health of our planet, and our freedom of choice? And perhaps the ultimate question, which Seifert tests himself: is it even possible to reject the food system currently in place, or have we lost something we can’t gain back? These and other questions take Seifert on a journey from his family’s table to Haiti, Paris, Norway, and the lobby of agra-giant Monsanto, from which he is unceremoniously ejected. Along the way we gain insight into a question that is of growing concern to citizens the world over: what's on your plate?
FRESH the movie
New thinking about what we're eating.
FRESH began as a grassroots effort for a grassroots movement, and it’s been tremendously exciting to see the movie spread like wildfire. FRESH celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system. Each has witnessed the rapid transformation of our agriculture into an industrial model, and confronted the consequences: food contamination, environmental pollution, depletion of natural resources, and morbid obesity. Forging healthier, sustainable alternatives, they offer a practical vision for a future of our food and our planet.
GMO MYTHS & TRUTHS
Are you benefiting from genetically engineered crops?
This video looks into the claims made by the industry's GMO producers and evaluates whether those goals are really being achieved. The three claims that are addressed are: increased crop yields, lower costs for farmers, and reduced use of herbicide. Also discussed is the lack of independent research and safety studies showing that GMOs are safe for the consumer.
CROPS IN AGRICULTURE
Genetically engineered crops are either resistent to herbicides or the genetically engineered crop emits an insecticide. In either case, nature has adapted and both superweeds and superbugs are continuing to develop at alarming rates. This dilemma both increses the use of stronger herbicides and devastates non-GMO crops and naturally delicate ecosystems.
